I've been busy in my art studio over the past few weeks creating, experimenting and just having fun.
I would like to present to all my email subscribers the first look of my newly created alcohol inks artwork titled 'The Reef' (images included below).
I've had a fun 'play session' where I did a paint-over. I find it rewarding to show the creative process of how an original piece is made.
I was asked to create commissioned alcohol inks coaster sets, so I decided to do a batch of five other designs which I'll have available at my next art market in Warragul on Saturday 20th Feb 2021.
As a self-taught artist, I felt it was time to actually learn the specific principles to creating abstract art, which is my first love, so I've enrolled in Jodie King's 'Color Course for Rebels'. Jodie encourages artists to paint on a bigger scale, so I'm excited to see where the next six months will take me on my art journey.
A paint-over session
I wanted to dramatically change this paint-over artwork by using acrylic wash only in my first layer.
I surrendered to the process, experimented with the use of line, colour and texture to paint intuitively in an abstract style.
Such a cathartic experiencce to just let go and have an adventure with the paints and colour, it's a complete transformation.
I'm waiting for the first layer to dry before I introduce water soluable crayons to tackle some detailing in the next layer.
NEW ARTWORK: THE REEF
The beauty of the Great Barrier Reef was my creative inspiration for this piece; from the deep blue waters, to the colourful coral reef beneath and the beautiful atoll formations.
